Local guide
A downtown that came back
The blocks around Proctors used to be a row of vacant buildings. Today, as The Daily Gazette put it in 2025, restaurants that cater to theatergoers stand there instead. The county’s Metroplex authority went after the Proctors block first, to steady it and get downtown moving. Walk a few minutes from the theater and you reach the pedestrian stretch of Jay Street, lined with small independent shops and eateries. Down by the Mohawk River is Mohawk Harbor, built on the old American Locomotive site, with offices, apartments, shops, a hotel and a casino.
Downtown restaurants live by the show schedule. When a touring show is in town, the dinner rush packs into a short window before curtain. That’s exactly when the phone rings most and nobody has a free hand.
Still the Electric City
Schenectady still makes things. GE Vernova runs its steam and generator assembly and testing center downtown, and in August 2025 the state announced the company would put at least $41 million more into it.
If you run a machine shop, a fab shop or a supply business, your office work probably looks like this: RFQs with drawings attached, certs and packing lists to send with every order, and purchase orders that have to match invoices before anyone gets paid. Most of it is reading, copying and checking. That is the kind of work AI is good at, with a person making the final call.
Main streets past downtown
Out Union Street near the Niskayuna line, the Upper Union Street business district is home to almost 100 independent businesses, from restaurants and specialty shops to salons and services. In a small shop like that, the owner is often also the receptionist, the bookkeeper and the person who posts on Facebook. Every missed call is a customer who might book down the street instead.
Where we’d start in Schenectady
- Restaurants and bars: an AI receptionist for the show-night phone and a website chat assistant for hours, menu and parking questions. More ideas on our restaurants and retail page.
- Shops and suppliers: inbox sorting and document automation, so an RFQ turns into a clean sheet and a draft quote. Dom’s construction company sits on the other side of this, sending pricing requests to suppliers when it bids a job. Here’s the system he built for that.
- Salons and services: missed-call text-back and scheduling and reminders on the calendar you already use.
Straight down Route 5
From our office in the Town of Colonie, we take Central Avenue west. Past the county line it becomes State Street, and a few more lights later we’re at Proctors. We’d rather see your dining room before service, your shop floor or your front desk than guess from a phone call, so that’s where the first visit happens.
Try the receptionist demo to see how it handles a call, take the AI readiness quiz, or book a free intro visit.

Three things we’d set up here
Typical first projects for Schenectady businesses. Each one is shaped around how you already work, and nothing goes out without your OK.

Show-night phone help for a restaurant near Proctors
Before a big show, the phone rings with the same questions: are you open early, can we get a table for six at 5:30, where do we park? An AI receptionist answers by phone or text, books what it can and hands you the rest, so your staff can stay on the floor.

AI Receptionist -
Quote requests for a machine shop or supplier
RFQs land in the inbox with drawings attached. AI pulls the part numbers, quantities, material and due date into one sheet, drafts the reply and flags anything unusual for a person to read. You still set every price.

Email & Inbox Automation -
Missed-call text-back for an Upper Union Street salon
You're with a client and the phone goes to voicemail, so the caller tries somewhere else. Now a text goes out right away with open times, the booking lands on your calendar, and a reminder goes out the day before.

More questions and answersDo you come to Schenectady?
Yes. It's about 20 to 25 minutes from our office: head west on Central Avenue and it turns into State Street. We'll meet you at your restaurant, your shop floor or your office.
We supply parts to bigger manufacturers. Will our customers' drawings end up in some AI company's hands?
We set everything up on accounts you own, with the business settings that keep your files out of model training where the vendor offers them. Some customer contracts have rules about where drawings can go, so we read those first and build around them.
Can it really keep up on a busy show night?
That's when it helps most. It can answer several calls and texts at once, gives the answers you approved about hours, menu and parking every time, and texts you anything it can't handle.
What happens if something breaks after you leave?
Call or text us. Our Monthly Care Plan covers fixes, tweaks and a quarterly check-in, and Schenectady is close enough that we can drive over when a problem needs a person in the room.
